Smirnoff
These cute pics were submitted by Arti's mum and dad, Sue and Len from Grimsby. Smirnoff is a 6 month old Russian Dwarf Saphire Winter White. He was originally one of a pair of dwarf hamsters owned by Arti, the other hamster being Ice a Saphire Pearl Winter White (who you can see in the Our Hamsters section).
Unfortunately, after about a month, it became apparrent that Smirnoff and Ice (yes, named after the Russian drink!) did not see eye to eye, with Ice really picking on Smirnoff. As the bullying became worse, Arti had no choice but to separate them. As his parents were so taken with them, they offered to adopt one and chose Smirnoff.
Smirnoff is now doted on by Sue and Len, who also nicknamed Smirnoff 'pancake', as he goes flat as a pancake when you hold him.
One final surprise was in store when Smirnoff was taken to the 2007 Rotherham show and entered in the pet section. It was here they discovered that Smirnoff the boy was in fact Smirnoff a girl! Smirnoff also won reserve ticket in the competion, Sue and Len being told the Smirnoff should be entered in the specialist Dwarf Hamster section next time due to her tameness and overall good quality such as her coat.
So Smirnoff went to the show as Sue and Lens proud little boy, and returned home as their prize winning princess!
