On 13th October 2007 we went to the Northern Hamster Club's show at Mapplewell. Vala was on the sale table there, and, despite promising ourselves that we would not come home with another hamster, Arti could not take his eyes off her all day. Vala is a fully grown hamster of 9 months old when we got her and was bred and lived up to that point by Carrington hamster crew. Vala has had one previous litter and was 'retired' from breeding although she is still young enough to have another litter. Arti just wanted to give her a nice home to stay for the rest of her days. She is a 'pure' golden (which means her ancestors for many generations have been goldens, so there is little chance of any other genes in her carrying other colours). She is a beautiful girl with very crisp markings and is a whopping 229 grams in weight. Vala is a very quiet, sweet natured little girl. She certainly loves her food and sleeping. She has created a most wonderful bed in her Savic Cambridge cage. She also enjoys exercising in her ball, and we don't think she has been in one before as she really didn't know what to do when we first put her in one, but soon got the hang of it. Despite the fact that Vala is an unexpected addition to our hamstery, she is a very welcome one! Update 12 December 2007 - Vala did very well in a recent hamster show, so we decided to breed from her to produce a good line of Golden hamsters. Sheryl from the Carrington Hamster Crew kindly lent us Yowie, a stunning male golden hamster to breed from. You can see a photo of them meeting for the first time on this page. Unfortunately, mating wasn't successful in the time we had Yowie, but we are hoping to try again soon. |
