Pip is the hamster that Arti saw in a pet shop and fell in love with at first sight. She is a normal golden agouti but has a very pretty face. She seemed very friendly in the shop and we let our hearts rule our head in buying her. Once she was home we quickly realised that she was having trouble eating. We examined her and found that she only has one tooth (one of her bottom ones) and that it was growing into the back of her mouth.
We took her to the vets and she cut it down, but it grew so fast that it was suggested that Pip undergo an operation to remove it totally. Pip didn’t react well to the anaesthetic and so the vet couldn’t undertake the operation. We have been left since with the task of clipping her tooth approximately once a fortnight. Recently Pip has become a great bar chewer (or gummer??) and regularly breaks her tooth herself against the bars of her cage saving us the job of clipping it. Thanks Pip!
She has grown to be a good size hamster and though she cannot chew well we blend her normal hamster food and she manages just fine. We would not breed from Pip because of her health problem.
