Hamsters

Peanut was our first hamster for quite some time. He is a Honey banded hamster and is getting to be quite an old boy now. He has a sweet temperament and is very gentle.

We think he is totally in love with Bramble and that the feeling may be mutual. Whenever Bramble is in season they call to each other across the room. Though he is older than the other hamsters he is still very active and is really inquisitive.

He scampers through his tubes like a young thing and loves watching what is going on in the hamster room. He knows his name very well and answers to it quickly even when asleep in his bed, but will come even faster if we shake a hamster treat bag!

Update 6th January 2008.

Peanut despite being the incredible age of 2 years and 8 months is still going strong and shows not too many signs of slowing down. Though he looks a little skinny and 'threadbare', and he sleeps a little more deeply, he still spends much of the night scampering about his cage like a pup! He often climbs up on the top bars of his cage and we regularly hear the THUMP as he loses his grip and drops to the floor. He is a really sweet old codger!
