Having found out that Butterbean was female we decided we needed another male hamster (Spud being our only breeding male).
A week or so earlier we had visited a local pet store and found that they had some beautiful long haired male hamsters in. We were very tempted, however, having just bought Butterbean we decided not to buy another male at that time.
We decided to revisit the pet store when we realised Butterbean was a girl and luckily, our favourite hamster was still there. So Manny came home with us.
He is still such a baby, but is very calm and happy to be handled. He loves being stroked and tickled on his tummy, especially if he is eating at the same time. He has a lovely coat and his white band is a good solid one. He is a black eyed cream and his ears and coat should darken a little as he grows. Manny was named after the Bill Bailey character in ‘Black Books’ as he appears to have the same happy eager temperament! He loves being groomed and when being held will try to squeeze into the warmest most comfortable places.
He is a natural poser and takes a lovely photo. He seems to always look happy and has settled in to our home very well. We have hopes of him becoming a very good hamster as he grows.
Update 6th January 2008.
Unfortunately Manny has not grown as much as we would have wished him to. He has stayed tiny, but does prove the saying that good things come in small packages. He is a very lazy boy and very picky about his food - if we didn't watch him he would only ever eat peanuts and sunflower seeds!
