One of two hamsters Rosie’s Granddad bought her from Flattop hamstery. Cookie is a short haired melanistic yellow Syrian hamster. When Rose first wanted some hamsters herself, she investigated and decided she really liked the look of melanistic yellows, and wanted one. I explained that she may have to wait in order to get so specific a colour, on attending her very first show, we found out that Sue from Flattop had some long and short haired ones, male and female! Rosie asked lots of questions and took lots of very good advice from Sue and so ended up with Flump and Cookie, giving her a chance to exhibit in a standard class (Flump is a standard colour) and also non-standard (for Cookie). Melanistic yellow is a black with a yellow undercoat. We are already seeing changes in Cookies colouring. Her underside and her cheek flashes have become very dark and she looks like she is wearing a strange colour blusher. When she moves she shows a rippling of the darker outer colour and yellow underfur and this is really attractive. She is an unusual looking girl. Cookie has been a little more work than Flump, as she is a little nervous, but if approached very gently she is quite inquisitive and gets better every day (she is still very much a baby yet). Cookie has a very special pink exercise ball/wheel, and a bright pink cage and all accessories so her home looks like something lived in by Jordan, Barbara Cartland or a Barbie doll! She doesn’t seem to mind though!
