- Major Website Update and Chat Forum!!
Sunday 1st June 2008
The Mad About Hamsters website is now undergoing a major rewrite with the aim of making it a more interactive community experience. The first stage in this rewrite is now complete with the addition of a hamster chat forum where you can seek and provide advice as well as make new friends!!
The forum is also designed in the format of our new look website so you can get an advance preview of how all of Mad About Hamsters will look in the future. We would love to hear your comments and suggestions on the new format as we roll it out across the rest of the website
You can now create an account with our website to join the forum and also be part of what will hopefully be a growing community. As well as the forum soon you will be able to: - Create your own hamster profiles to share across the internet
- Access and contribute to hamster articles
- Buy and sell hamster realted items
And that's just to name a few interactive features we have planned!
So why not visit the foum, join up and begin contributing to the hamster madness.
This website has been designed to share our love of our hamsters with you. We hope you enjoy it. We are hamster hobbyists based in North East Lincolnshire, England, and enjoy spending all of our free time with our gorgeous hamster friends.
We’ve been hamster keepers for many years and we find them an ideal pet. We currently have eighteen Syrian hamsters, Peanut, Spud, Bramble, Princess, Pip, Butterbean, Manny, Cookie, Flump, Dubaku, Chip, Vala, Bronte, Amelie, Sabine, Grey-ham Norton and Tabasco. We also have two cute Dwarf hamsters, a Winter White called Ice (originally we also had Smirnoff but, due to irreconcilable differences, he moved out!) and a rescue/donation hamster called Bubbagump. Find out more about our hamsters by clicking on the section titled Our Hamsters on the left side of this page.
We recently started breeding our Syrian hamsters due to requests from friends who wished to benefit from adopting a friendly, playful and affectionate hamster, bred in a home setting and handled from its earliest days to ensure tameness. We did not take the decision lightly however, and undertook a lot of research before breeding our first litter. We also joined a hamster club and took lots of advice from those more expert than us! You can see more about our litters in our breeding diary.
We don’t profess to be hamster experts, but we are experts on our hamsters. Because we don’t know everything, we have included lots of links to websites we have found useful, along with our own tips.
We would also like to invite you to contribute your experience and knowledge to this site, as well as giving you the chance to display photos of your beloved hammies and tell us a little about them. For the moment you can do this via email through the Contact Us section, but soon we will have a dedicated upload section where you can submit content without the need for email.
This website is in its early stages of development, but we hope that with your help and input it can grow to be a source of information for us all.

- Bronte gave birth to a beautiful litter on 9th March and the 9 golden pups are starting to wander out of the nest and forage for food. Pups will be ready for re-homing on 20th April!
- We are currently working on designing an even better website for you, and this means we have not been updating our current site as regularly as previously. We also have increased our hamsters with the addition of Grey-ham Norton, Tabasco and Bubbagump. See profiles for them shortly. We also have a new litter due on 9th March as Bronte is due to give birth on that date - further updates to follow!
- Two new hamsters have become honorary 'Mad About' hamsters on the 'Your Hamsters' pages. Welcome to Ralph and Ping
- the profiles for Bronte Amelie and Sabine have been added.
- Hamster Chat Room now being trialled for people to talk about hamsters (as opposed to a room where hamsters talk, ahem! Now that would be something!). We'd also like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous 2008!
- Check out the new photo profile of Vala the Golden hamster.
- Princess and Dubaku were mated on 19th October and Princess gave birth on 4th November. View the breeding diary here!
- We have recently added three more hamsters to our family – Dubaku, Chip and Vala. Find out more about them (including why Chip is so special to us) in the Our Hamsters pages.
