We don’t approach the cage apart from to change the water and to give her some food. Bramble is obviously starving though as she straight away comes for the food. I think you can see she is definitely a first time Mum though as she is obviously confused. She has the instinct to cover her babies for safety, but instead covers over the food bowl! Well, it is an easy mistake to make and she didn’t make it again.
The hamster pups look like little pink shrimps and are blind and hairless. They weigh about 2-3 grams and are about 1.5 cms long. Although they are this tiny they already have their teeth. We don’t get close enough to even think about how many pups there are, but we guess anyway and think about 9. After a quick snack Bramble returns to her brood and covers herself and them to ensure they are warm and cozy. |
