Bramble has been quite restless, rearranging her breeding cage and ensuring she has a comfy nest. She seemed to be awake most of the day and was still wanting to come out for a walk, though we left her alone to ensure she could rest as much as possible before the birth. We also removed any toys from her cage for safety.
At about 6.00pm she settled down in her bed and we left her to it. Most hamsters will give birth in the afternoon and early evening. As you can see, by 6.20pm she was actively giving birth, washing the babies as they appeared. Though I had heard that some hamsters will walk around whilst giving birth then carry their pups back to the nest, Bramble seemed quite happy to stay in the nest and save herself the effort. After a while she settled down for a good long rest and of course, we made no attempt to look in the cage at all. |
